BIOGRAPHY_______________________________________________

Amy Marshall Flannery is a Texas based artist known for creating paintings and mixed media on canvas.  Her artwork shows her fascination for exhibiting images that have been reworked from meaningful underpainting, collaborative beginnings and marbleized cloth base layers. Amy gravitated towards the art field as early as elementary school. Her father was in advertising, her grandmother was a painter and they both inspired her.

Amy graduated from Grinnell College where she majored in art with an education concentration. She was passionate about art and how it is a means to make positive change. She chose to primarily work with underprivileged students teaching for 10 years.

She then took on various small jobs and volunteer positions that were infused with art experiences for both adults and children while raising her three daughters. For example, from 2003-2011 she traveled to Peru once a year and was asked to create artistic activities for large groups. Each activity was not the reason for the trip but the “backdrop” to relationship building that facilitated better understanding between the Lima based churches and the Houston based churches that were their partners.  The collaborations included a mural, a mosaic, faux stained glass, batiking and various crafts.

In 2012 Amy returned to public school teaching for ten years. In 2022 Amy retired as a public school teacher.
